6 Things That Will Hurt Your Skin

Hey girl hey! Let’s talk about some habits that we may or maynot be aware of and need to break. Changing these 6 habits that will hurt your skin will allow you to see some amazing improvement. It’s the littlest things that we may not even think about are the culprits to sabotaging our progress to wonderful, healthy skin.

 

1. Washing Your Face In The Shower

Ok we already know how important it is to wash our face. But the question is, does it truly matter where you are doing it?  The answer to the question is yes. Now I don’t know about you but I love a hot shower. And I’m pretty sure most of you are not showering in lukewarm water..sooo my point is, hot water is not good for our face. Hot water can actually damage your skin by stripping  away the natural oils and essential moisture. We should face our face with lukewarm water.

 

2. Not Cleaning Your Phone 

I’m  quick to admit that you will get text from me quicker than a returned phone call.  From our purses, desks and nightstands, just think about all the bacteria and germs your cell phone picks up throughout the day! My advise would be to carry alcohol free cleansing wipes and wipe down that screen during your day.

 

3. Skipping Sunscreen During Fall and Winter

There seems to be a notion that sunscreen is not needed during the fall and winter months and most importantly if you are a woman of color.  But did you know that the sun rays can penetrate the clouds, even while indoors by the windows the UV rays can cause aging and potential skin cancer. So girlfriend, please invest in some sunscreen.  I use SPF50 which is perfect for my melanated skin.

 

4. Not know your skin type and using the wrong products

It’s quite common that some do not know their skin type. And as a result, end up using the wrong products which doesn’t address our actually skincare needs and aggravating any skincare conditions we might have. Feel free to take our skincare quiz to determine your skin type.

 

5. Applying Your Products Out Of Order

So you decided to go all out and incorporate a 5 step skincare regimen but now what? The key thing to remember is to apply your products from a thin to thick consistency. The order would be cleanser, toner, serum, moisturizer, facial oil. If we use products that contain actives  we can block certains ingredients for penetrating the skin.

 

6. Not switching out our washcloth soon enough

Just like not wiping down our cell phones, washcloths are a breeding ground for bacteria and mold.  If you are choosing use one during your routine, it’s best practice to change them every other day. I actually love using paper towels to pat my skin dry instead!
