I know the struggle is real. Trying to win this skin game is not an easy task. This is one temperamental organ but here are a few healthy habits that will have your skin singing praises.
HABIT #1: Stay protected throughout the day
I know I know...you've heard this before. We've even drilled this but we left one important thing out. It's not enough to just apply and roll out especially if you're in direct sunlight throughout the day. Be sure to apply it a half-hour before you go outside and then reapply every two to four hours. If you wear make up, using SPF infused products are a definite plus.
HABIT #2: Lower that shower temperature
Man, if you're like me, there's nothing like a long hot shower to relax your mind. Unfortunately hot water strips your skin of it's natural oils which can leave it dry. Without taking you back to biology class, the outermost layer of your skin, the epidermis, contain cells that provide a tough defense against the environment and also help your skin to retain moisture from the thin layer of oil that's naturally produced. In short, that hot steaming water beats up that layer and compromises that moisture retention. So, shorten those showers and lower the temperature to help your skin's natural moisture.
Habit #3: Cleanse Before Bed
Okay... so if you've been checking out my articles, this is one that I've mentioned more than once. There's a reason.... It's very very very important. By the end of the day, your skin is a full of dirt, oil and pollution and don't get me started again about that make up girl. Reduce breakouts, brighten skin, enhance your complexion...Sound nice right??? Well, this is achieved faster when you get that grime off at night.

Habit #4: Get Yo Rest Sugahs
Your skin really wants you to get as close to eight hours as you can. It needs that time to rejuvenate and repair. It's been beat up pretty bad throughout the day. That cell recovery helps to renew your complexion bringing in back to life. A good night's rest can also minimize those dark circles and bags. So, help your skin unwind as early as you can and catch those zzZZ's.

Okay, so I don't have to tell you you should be eating right and drinking plenty of water. It's pretty obvious that eating right is just an overall good habit to have. But, sometimes the question is what should I eat? Well, you should "Eat the Rainbow."
RED: Lycopene is a powerful antioxidant that can help reduce the risk of cancer and keep our heart healthy.
PURPLE /BLUE: Anthocyanin has antioxidant properties that protect cells from damage and can help reduce the risk of cancer, stroke and heart disease.
ORANGE/YELLOW: Betacarotene is found in sweet potatoes, pumpkins and carrots. It is converted to vitamin A, which helps maintain healthy mucous membranes and healthy eyes.
GREEN: range of phytochemicals including carotenoids, indoles and saponins, all of which have anti-cancer properties. Leafy greens such as spinach and broccoli are also excellent sources of folate.
BROWN/WHITE: contain a range of health-promoting phytochemicals known for its antiviral and antibacterial properties. Some members of the white group, such as bananas and potatoes, are also a good source of potassium.
There you have it Sugahs... now have at it. It takes 28 days to form a habit, or so I've been told. Truth be told, it doesn't really matter how long it takes as long as you take the time to get it a go. Your skin will be glad you did.
Until next time....
XOXO
