Good Grief! How Many Steps Do I Really Need?
Lordt have mercy... it seems like a trillion at times but this is a very valid question. It's one I get quite often and it tends to be right up there in frequency with what order should I apply my products. If you attend "Google University" you'll get a ton of view points, suggestions and "musts".

The truth is, it truly depends on your skin and what you're trying to accomplish. Before I explore what that looks like, I will say that I truly believe everyone should, at bare minimum, utilize these four key steps:

  1. Cleanse with a pH balanced skin type specific formula
  2. Tone with an alcohol free gentle formula
  3. Moisturize with either a cream or oil based formula ideal for your skin
  4. SPF30

Now, that's a pretty solid maintenence regimen to keep your skin healthy if you don't have any pressing concerns like, excessive oily or dry/dehydrated skin, hyperpigmentation, blemishes, breakouts, wrinkles or fine lines.  When you're battling these pains in the you know what, there are a few more steps that will be key to success.

Ok ladies, keep in mind the one of the most important, if not THE most important things to understand is that what you put in your body greatly affects the condition of your skin. So, please eat as clean as possible and get that H2O in. Skincare products are great but they aren't miracle workers, lol. The other to consider, is that there are some things, like dark under eye, that are genetic or hormonal. In those cases, proper skincare will help to manage situations not necessary "cure" them.

Now that I've gotten a bit of house keeping out of the way, lets talk steps, what are they and in what order should you apply. Again it will vary whether it's your AM or PM, with or without makeup but in general, you should keep these steps in mind for a well rounded skincare regimen.

  • Step 0: Make Up Remover
  • Step 1:  Mask (1-2x p/week)
  • Step 2: Cleanser
  • Step 3: Toner or Exfoliator (2-3x p/week)
  • Step 4: Serum
  • Step 5: Cream Moisturizer and/or Eye Cream
  • Step 6: Facial Oil
  • Step 7: SPF30 Protection
  • Step 8: Foundation

Keep in mind beauties that incorporating your mask, exfoliator and serum steps into your regimen will amp up your skin progress. They are all key in the areas of cellular turnover, skin rejuvenation, skin resurfacing, hydration, evening skin tone, unclogging pores and so much more.  So, if you're not quite seeing the results you want and aren't including these steps, consider adding them, allow for 30-45 days of consistency and watch how your skin changes. You won't be disappointed.

But, seriously, whether you have a 3 step or 10 step regimen, I can't say enough how much diet, exercise and good ole H2O are key to skin success. It's also important to have regular sessions with a qualified esthetician or dermatologist. There are some concerns that need deeper treatment coupled with an effective skincare regimen for between visit maintenance.

Hopefully, ladies, this was helpful.  Of course if you have questions, feel free to send me an email or schedule a skin chat. I'm here to help.

Until Next Time Sugahs....
