Face Yoga…Girl Who Knew?!?

Ok now, you know we’re on a mission to getting your skin on point from the inside out. I was putting together a few at home workout routines to get y’all moving and accidentally came across some info about face yoga. Ok, maybe I’m a bit late but who knew?

Well, of course off I go on a researching rampage. What is it? How does it work? What is it good for? Does it really help?

You get the picture.

Huntee, I tell you what. After a few minutes of doing these exercises, my face was a bit flushed and I was feeling muscles I didn’t even know existed.

The more research I did, the more I learned that certain facial exercises, practiced consistently, will positively improve your skin. I mean really? I read that face yoga is being hailed as a non-invasive alternative to Botox and surgery.

I did see a few photos online from reputable sites and the results were there. Now, this isn’t an overnight thing y’all so as always, be patient.

I stumbled across the site of face yoga expert Danielle Collins who explained that these exercises, “work the hypodermis or the lower layer of the skin, the dermis or the middle layer and the epidermis or the upper layer.”
She also says that, “by working all these layers correctly it will increase the blood circulation, allowing more oxygen and more nourishment to reach the cells of the skin. The result is a clear, healthy complexion with a beautiful glow which has less toxins and has a better ability to absorb moisture.”

On top of that, the facial exercises technique is also designed to stimulate collagen and elastin production in the middle layer of the skin giving you a smoother, more supple, tighter-looking skin.

WHUUUTT?!? I was sold. You mean I can fight the signs of aging with face yoga? Y’all should really check her out. She has the loveliest UK accent too… I digress.

Now guys….this is a true workout just like any other. It’s recommended that in order to see true results you should practice 20 minutes a day 6 times a week. Many have seen less fine lines and less tension in as little at 2 months. Remember, everyone is different and change will vary.

I don’t know about you but I’m adding these to my daily fitness schedule. Whether you want to relax in your prayer closet, outside on your deck or heck chillin’ watching your favorite flick. I’d say find some time and get to work.

Here are five exercises from the face yoga expert herself. Thanks Danielle Collins

Smooth the brow

Target: Horizontal Forehead Lines

  • Step 1: Place both hands on the forehead facing inwards and spread all of the fingers out between the eyebrows and hairline.
  • Step 2: Gently sweep the fingers outwards across the forehead, applying light pressure to tighten the skin.
  • Step 3: Relax and repeat 10 times.

The Giraffe
Target: Lines and loose skin on the neck.

  • Step 1: Looking straight ahead, place the finger tips at the bottom of the neck and lightly stroke the skin downwards with the head tilted back.
  • Step 2: Bring the head back down to the chest and repeat twice more.
  • Step 3: Finally, jut the lower lip out as far as possible to pull the corners of the mouth down and place finger tips on the collarbone with the chin pointed upwards. Hold for four deep breaths.

The Flirty Eyes
Target: Deep eye hollows and drooping eye brows.

  • Step 1: Place an index finger under each eye, pointing towards the nose.
  • Step 2: Hide the teeth and tease the top lip and bottom lip away from each other at the the mouth.
  • Step 3: Flutter the upper eyelids while gazing at the ceiling for 30 seconds.

The V

Target: Drooping eyelids, crow’s feet, eye bags and puffiness.

  • Step 1: Press both middle fingers together at the inner corner of the eyebrows, then with the index fingers, apply pressure to the outer corners of the eyebrows.
  • Step 2: Look to the ceiling, and raise the lower eyelids upwards to make a strong squint, and then relax.
  • Step 3: Repeat six more times and finish by squeezing eyes shut tightly for 10 seconds.

The Smile Smoother
Target: Cheek lines and sagging skin.

  • Step 1: Hide the teeth with the lips to make an ‘O’ shape with the mouth.
  • Step 2: Smile widely while keeping the teeth hidden and repeat six times.
  • Step 3: Next, hold the smile shape while placing one index finger on the chin. Then start to move the jaw up and down as the head tilts gently back. Relax and repeat twice more.

Girl, I already look young but now that I’ve found these exercises, I’ll be looking 20 before you know it, lol. Well, maybe not but I’ll feel like it and isn’t that what counts?
