Benefits of facial steaming
I must admit every time I do a facial steam I always feel like I’m treating myself to something extra special. Like it’s a whole ritual on my “spa nights,” dried botanical, great music and a glass of wine (of course right)! So I’m going to share with you some amazing benefits to facial steaming and why, if you don’t already incorporate it in your regimen, you should.
How does facial steaming benefit your skin?
HELP YOUR SKINCARE PRODUCTS WORK BETTER
Steaming helps soften the skin, making it more permeable, basically allowing your skincare to penetrate better. This allows your products to work better and you truly get your money’s worth girl!
STEAMING OXYGENATES OUR SKIN
When we heat our skin, it increases the blood flow which brings nutrients and oxygenates the skin. This helps fight off infection and bacteria that that we come in contact with daily and ultimately leads to amazing glowing skin.
HELPS TO KEEP OUR PORES CLEAN
Talk about breaking down oil build up trapped in our pores, steaming cleans out the gunk that leads to breakouts. I love to amp it up by following with a clay mask. It’s like the loose dirt and oil from the steam doesn’t stand a chance.
KEEPS YOUR SKIN HYDRATED NATURALLY
Steaming our skin helps keep our skin hydrated, allowing our skin to naturally produce oils keeping our skin naturally moisturized and balanced.
There are a few ways you can choose to steam your face. When steaming, remember you only need to steam no longer than 5-10 minutes and no more than once a week . And if you suffer from Rosacea, I would suggest not to steam as this will aggravate the the condition. Even though steaming is beneficial and hydrating to the skin, if you suffer from dry skin and or eczema please be careful. I would strongly suggest to limiting the time to no more than 5 minutes.
1. STEAM USING A WARM FACIAL CLOTH
This is probably the quickest and easiest ways to steam your face. I actually use this method quite often. It’s convenient because I can get my whole routine done in the bathroom.
2. STEAM WITH A PORTABLE FACIAL STEAMER
I must admit, when using my portable facial steamer I feel like I really brought the spa experience home! There are so many amazing models out there on the market. Just be sure to follow the instructions to a tee! You can easily traumatize your skin if not used correctly. I really love the ones that allow you to use essential oils. It allows you to tailor your session according to your skin’s needs.
3. STEAM FACE OVER A BOWL OF WATER
This I believe is the most common practiced technique used. This method allows you to really be creative in using dried herbs in the water to target any issues you may have.
What to do during and after steaming your face
- drink a extra glasses of water
